Dear Parents:
We are completing another great year of learning and fun at Cascade. There have been so many notable events that have taken place that I could not possibly list all of them in this column. What stands out for me are the fine achievements of our students in terms of reading, writing, mathematical reasoning, and content knowledge. I look forward to reporting this year's state scores to you as soon as they become available. Our students have also excelled in musical performances, athletics, art competitions, academic contests, and much more. We have had fun at the socials, school assemblies, and Cascade on the Green.
On behalf of all the staff, I wish to thank YOU, our parents for your fantastic efforts this year helping us to educate our students. I am very pleased and thankful for our wonderful and supportive PTSA. PTSA President Kristi Kaufman has been instrumental in working with her board to ensure a very high level of financial and volunteer support for the Cascade staff and students.
I am very pleased to report that our PBS (Positive Behavior Support) initiative will continue in full force next year. Furthermore, we are going to implement WEB (Where Everyone Belongs) next year. The WEB program entails having each incoming 6th grader be matched with an 8th grade student trained in leadership and mentoring responsibilities. This program has been very popular with other schools in our District, and will increase the connections between our students, and, significantly, reduce anxieties new 6th graders often feel.
I wish the 8th grade students and their parents much luck in their new high school ventures. It has been very rewarding for me watching your children grow and mature over the years. I know they have what it takes to succeed, and I look forward to hearing of their accomplishments. We have an exciting day planned for the 8th graders on June 10, including spending much of the day at the Athletic Club of Bend, followed with a promotion assembly and a dance.
For all of you with incoming 6th graders, we cannot wait to have you with us! Look for a registration packet in the mail by August 20 regarding our September 2nd and September 3rd registration days at Cascade. We will take very good care of your children.
I want to remind all parents to keep messages, deliveries to your children, and early dismissal requests during 8th period at a minimum, as we are being inundated with such requests.
